“20年过去了，想到我服役的单位，曾经保障过王伟烈士所在的飞行单位，我就想让王伟烈士看看现在我军的发展势头、现在年轻人的精气神，以告慰烈士英灵，所以想到写这封信。”
在这封信里，他向多年来激励着自己完成蜕变的这份英雄的力量表达了敬意，“中华民族从来不缺脊梁，过去未曾缺过，现在不缺，未来也绝不会缺。”
Wang Wei, a pilot serving in the Navy Air Force of China"s People"s Liberation Army (PLA), was presumed dead 20 years ago after going missing following a midair collision between a U.S. surveillance plane and a Chinese fighter jet. His body has never been found.
A retired navy wrote a letter to commemorate Wang Wei though 20 years have passed. He was young in 2001. His first realization that “fights for your country" is not just a slogan but a moment you decide to jump like the pilot was when he heard about the incident. He wanted to show respect to the hero pilot in memory of his sacrifice.
2001年4月1日，当傲慢的美国侦察机盘旋在我南海领空，值守的飞行员王伟和赵宇迅速驾驶歼-8Ⅱ战机跟踪拦截。
81192，正是王伟生前所驾驶的歼-8Ⅱ战机的编号。
在我方发出警告后，美军的战机仍持续逼近，并突然驾机朝王伟撞了过来。在剧烈碰撞中，王伟的战机尾翼被打成碎片，机身彻底断裂。
此时，王伟的耳边传来队友的呼唤，“呼叫81192，这里是553，我奉命接替你机执行巡航任务，请返航！”
但王伟没有退缩。他操纵着已经失控，正翻滚下坠的飞机，用镇定的语气回复道：
“81192收到，我已无法返航，你们继续前进，重复，你们继续前进！”
就这样，王伟驾驶的这架僚机在中国海南岛东南70海里（110公里）的中国专属经济区上空与美机发生碰撞后坠毁。
他的生命也就此陨落在这片曾奋战过的浩瀚深蓝之中。
On April 1, 2001, Wang"s fighter jet coded 81192 was rammed and destroyed by the U.S. plane in the sky over the South China Sea as he traced and monitored the plane"s trespass. Wang parachuted out and perished in the ocean after his jet broke apart.
The Chinese navy along with other units began a 14-day search for the 33-year-old pilot though it was thought that there was little possibility of him being found alive.
